sunday i will be running my 6th half marathon!! i love half marathons, it's probably my favorite distance. it's still an awesome accomplishment, but doesn't take quite as much out of you as a full does. plus you get to run faster :)
i am running the napa to sonoma half marathon which i am really excited about. i have run another one of the destinations races and they are great! all through wine country, small race, organized, beautiful courses, and wine tasting at the end! all the rohos will be there too along with a few other bloggers and some friends from high school, it should be a FUN weekend and race!
i was looking over my past 5 half marathons and i noticed a little pattern...
#1 - 1:51:03: see jane run, automatic PR
#2 - 1:51:15: san jose rock n roll half, just miss PR
#3 - 1:48:14: healdsburg, PR
#4 - 1:48:58: KP, just miss PR
#5 - 1:44:27: shamrock, PR
i have #6 and #7 coming up this weekend and next, and i can guarantee you i will be breaking this pattern... #7 will not be a PR :) haha but will #6??
i would LOVE if i could "just miss" my PR this weekend, i don't know if i have that in me right now, or if the weather will be permitting (could be a hot one!). i really have no idea what to expect this weekend from my legs... but i do know it will be fun and that's all i am caring about right now :)
next weekend is san francisco, i hate to say it, but i think it will probably be a PW. it's a tough course, and i know i shouldn't "race" 2 weekends in a row right now... that i should treat it as a training run and just enjoy the course and have fun, so those are my main goals. i will probably be running with my camera too :)
*************************
last night was the sunset run in the city hosted by fleet feet. there was awful traffic and we were all late getting there but we made it. there was also definitely not a sunset... it was so cold, foggy and windy! it's crazy what a 25 mile drive will do to the weather around here. it was 95+ in the east bay and not even 60 in san francisco... but i am NOT complaining :)
it was a nice run, always fun to catch up with the girls and get an awesome nike tech shirt :)
5.0 miles/44:06/8:49 avg pace
this morning i got up for an 8 miler and decided to bring the pups with me! kylie and i headed out for the first 4 miles. she did SO good, i was so happy with how well she was running with me, not pulling and paying attention to where i was going. we then went to the school near our house that has a .6 mile gravel path around the outside of baseball fields and ran a few laps there. she saw a possum and i think i have leash burn on my arm now - she wanted that thing!! there were also 2 cats taunting her that she wanted to go chase badly :) but overall she did SO good and was definitely beat when we got home.
kylie miles: 4.0 miles/36:44/9:11 avg pace
i dropped kylie off and emma and i headed out the door. she was also running so well this morning and i was really happy!! she was doing so good and keeping a great pace, so i decided to go out another 1/2 mile to make a total of 9 for the day and 5 with her. we were about a mile from home and had to stop at the stoplight for a minute and after that she was just done... emma hit the wall :) she was going really slow, so i decided to just take a short cut home and walk with her. i am always nervous of pushing them too hard and hurting them, so i didn't want to do that. i don't think she has ever been so calm on a "walk" before :) we jogged a bit after she looked a little more energized so it didn't take so long to get home for a total of 4.4 miles.
emma miles: 4.4 miles/38:55/8:50 avg pace
total: 8.4 miles/1:15:39/9:00 avg pace
my friends are coming up tonight and then a big group of us are hitting the expo on saturday... it's going to be a fun weekend! be on the lookout for my race report sunday night! i can never keep them in my brain too long :) have a great weekend!

GOOOD luck this weekend!!! You girls are gonna have so much fun! Can't wait to hear how you do-- and you are SOO going to break your pattern! Rock it girl! :)
Have a great weekend - just enjoy yourself! All these miles are points in the bank for your marathon, and count as training - mentally as well as physically. And oh girl you will have such a great time in Napa with the ROHOs - just take lots of photos!
I can't wait to hear the race report. I really want to do this half in the next year or two. Wine for recovery without the crazy looks. What more could I ask for?
Good luck!
yay! Good luck this weekend! I hope you run well and feel great :-)
GOOD LUCK this weekend!!!!
sounds like a fun race
Good luck.. Will send you PR vibes. I loved my one and only half Marathon...
Hope everything clicks for #6! You are running so well! I wish we had more HM available around here, they are far and few between, but 5&10k's are numerous. Good luck!!
Hey! Good luck this weekend... just go out there and have fun! :)
Good luck! I am not a fan of the half...I have PR'd both half's that I have ran, but I was more nervous for those since you have to run faster.
I love half marathons too. That's a great PR. I'm hoping to get under the 1:45 mark on my next. Good luck!
good luck this weekend! i think i'm leaning towards the same thinking as you, half marathons might be the best: you get to run fast but it's long enough that the race isn't over in .2 seconds.
enjoy the weekend! sounds like a fun one!
I love half marathons, too, though I have never officially trained for one...I might try to qualify for NY marathon via a 1/2 marathon, and will def need to train then. Have a fun weekend and a strong race. Just let the legs go and embrace whatever comes..
Ana-Maria
good luck this weekend :D
Wow 1:44 for a half!! Amazing. Now if #6 could just be 1:43:59...
Good luck this weekend!
Haha I wish my dog would cooperate on a run. I think he would be dead after a mile though!
Great runs lately!! The dog jogs (ha!) sound lovely.
Have fun this weekend at the half. Napa to Sonoma was my first half marathon back in '05! :)
Best of luck with your sixth half!
I'm looking for a fun 1/2 to do ... one with a good party afterwards ;) Wine would be cool (and much different than around here!).
I love half's too! So far my favorite distance...but let's hope that changes in November with my first full !
So I'm willing to bet 3 things about this race:
1) The scenery will be amazing
2) You and the other ROHOs will have a blast
3) You'll smoke it!!!!
Best of luck :o)
Good luck this weekend! I think you'll PR!
You have a great track record with your halfs! Can't wait to see what you do on Sunday. Have fun!
Have a great time this weekend. Enjoy the 1/w marathon on Sunday.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE 1/2 marathons! You are going to kill your PR!!
I wish I'd met you last night at Sunset Run :o(!
The HM is my favorite distance too!
Have fun this weekend and good luck!
You have a great history of half marathons. Have lots of fun this weekend. I wish I had the option of driving 25 to get in a cooler temp run!
Have a great race I am sure your new shoes will carry you all the way home!
Have a great race I am sure your new shoes will carry you all the way home!
Have fun at the expo! Enjoy the race with the girls! Hopefully it wont be too hot for you!
Woo hoo! Have fun this weekend! I can't wait to meet you next weekend at San Francisco!
Good luck and have fun. Enjoy all the great vino. What a great sounding race!
You are going to have so much fun this weekend. Good luck in the race!
You are hard core running to halfs two weekends in a row-on my schedule I'd die...but you are a running animal! I hope you have an amazing time in Wine country! I'm very jealous!!
Good luck. I'm looking forward to your race report!
Aron-Have a great race today!
Hope you had a great race!
I'd go into SF thinking just for a good time. Take lots of pictures and enjoy the atmosphere. It's so hard not to try for a PR though!
Aw, your puppies are so good! Hope the race went well! Can't wait for the report :)
Can't wait to read your report!
I love the trend in your race times! Mine are kind of all over - most of the races I did initially were completely different states/climates/seasons etcs. Hmmm.
now I get to go read your race report ;) haha
YAY I'm late ha ha. :) BUT I can't wait for this weekend and having a fun race. PW who cares! ha ha
well this weekend can still continue the trend of a "just" missed pr... kinda ;) i know you had a blast though and it's probably better to change up the trend so you don't let it get to your head a few races down the road! :)
i love half's too for the same reasons!
